Taking Safety Seriously Through Computer Gameplay
The project will develop and evaluate the effectiveness of an immersive 3D computer game to deliver Occupational Health and Safety (White Card) certification training for the construction industry. The game will be delivered in a range of ways:
• online in regional or remote locations via a web browser and NBN connectivity
• via downloadable file to computers over high-speed Internet
• on smart phone or tablet devices connected to high-speed Internet
Results gained through in-game data collection including user interaction; decision making; multiple choice quizzes; and text fields will be sent remotely to a database for assessment.The delivery platforms will be trialled using VU’s high-speed AARnet connection, then rolled out to relevant NBN hubs once they become operational. This will enable asynchronous learning in the workplace or networked synchronous training in 3D immersive environments.

Hats off to the NBN
This project will connect millinery students with fashion industry designers around millinery design and forecasting of fashion trends focussing on promoting ethical principles, sustainability and environmental practices as part of the learning for the unit 'LMTML4006A Sketch and prepare millinery fashion designs'. KI trainers would work with experienced fashion designers presenting ‘live’ from a Brunswick NBN location to a group of Kangan fashion students at the KI AARNET location. Students can ask questions and display their designs; the presenters can demonstrate their craft and explain the process involved from initial sketch to final design. A follow up blog will be set up to enable the student / industry discussion to continue.Trainers will gain experience in using the NBN network and appropriate software for synchronous and asynchronous communication. A project report outlining the delivery model, a user guide on the use of NBN and support resources on sustainable practices will be developed.

Design industry partnerships through the National Broadband Network
This project aims to use live video streaming via the National Broadband Network (NBN) to link industry specialists in Brunswick with learners located at Holmesglen Institute of TAFE enrolled in the Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design (21874/21873VIC). The Department of Design, Multimedia and Art at Holmesglen deliver the courses to approximately forty students. Students will complete elements from the unit of competency titled ‘Plan and implement a project in the workplace’. The project will be led by Learning Innovation and Development (LID) at Holmesglen who will work in partnership with: the Department of Design, Multimedia and Art, the Australian Graphic Design Association and a studio (currently under negotiation) located in an NBN site. The use of video streaming technology will facilitate access to industry specialists in a real and authentic work setting site and will enhance learning outcomes for students.

NBN VET Together
The NBN VET Together project will use the super-fast broadband speed of the NBN, AARNET and ADSL2+ to deliver work-based practical training and assessment in cash handling and using EFTPOS facilities via recorded live streaming to 50-60 learners in six locations around Tasmania, two locations in Melbourne and one in Townsville (four NBN sites). Process Financial Transactions (SITXFIN001A/ CUEFOH07B) has been selected for its usefulness to the learners as a stand-alone skills-based unit, its relatively narrow scope and as a cross-sector unit, its applicability across 23 nationally recognised qualifications. Learners represent a cross section of NBN/AARNET/ADSL2+ users including existing hospitality apprentices, trainees, employers and VET in Schools students.Project team members have considerable depth of experience in e-learning, superfast broadband technology, community development, industry development, research, data interpretation and VET. Successfully delivering this unit solely via superfast broadband technology will enable us to move towards a shared longer-term goal of delivering full trade qualifications via the NBN.

NBN Speed on Wheels
Imagine training in a media-rich and dynamic e-learning environment where the classroom comes to the students and the teacher could be anywhere. The Skills Institute’s Mobile Training Unit, equipped with 15 computers, will realise this by being transported to all three of the Stage 1 NBN Sites in Tasmania. It will demonstrate the power of pure NBN connectivity unencumbered by the relative slow speed of ADSL. Training will span four industry skills groups and every trial will be conducted between Stage1 NBN locations.The project will reveal the benefits of the NBN for any training provider, in any situation, at any time through the use of a Mobile Training Unit or any type of vehicle adapted for training.Through the NBN we will provide synchronous virtual classrooms, collaborative learning on a local and National level indulging in bandwidth hungry resources, appealing to the learning preferences of today’s digital learners, demonstrating the potential of our broadband enabled future.

Growing our Future Growing the NBN
The aim of this project is to leverage the capabilities of the NBN to develop a real time and on demand interactive horticultural experience that bridges the geographic divide of rural and regional Tasmania for students and teachers. This will be done through a powerful working relationship between the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens (RTBG), The GlobalNet Academy (the RTO) and a horticultural Trade Training Centre, schools, teachers, learners and the broader Tasmanian community. This relationship coalition will pilot the use of superfast broadband compatible technologies for VET learning delivery. Strengthening and enriching partner and learner interactions through the creation of a flexible learning environment in which young people can develop an interest in and appreciation of, horticulture as a first choice career and the part it plays with food security in our community.This learning environment will allow participants (students and teachers) to engage with each other across multiple locations in real time and on demand. It will provide increased and innovative access to professional horticultural training for students who live in regional areas.

Limitless eLearning: beyond the classroom
Challenger will implement a new delivery model that aims to provide a live, remote classroom option for students at our Mandurah Campus and throughout the regional Peel area. This project will use a high resolution digital camera situated in our new state of the art nursing facility at our Murdoch campus (Perth metropolitan area) to capture skill demonstrations by lecturers and through broadcast, web based technology stream these sessions live to our students in Mandurah and the Peel region. The technology will provide a two way communication solution, so that remote students will be able to participate in real time, asking questions and participating in discussions, providing a rich interactive learning experience. This project aims to establish the technology requirements for an interactive broadcast delivery model, and the skills needed by lecturers, ICT support staff and students.

vStream aims to build the capability and capacity of private Registered Training Organisations by experimenting and developing e-learning and e-assessment tools, platforms and systems with a focus on common freeware and cost-effective tools, using cloud applications for video streaming and mobile technologies, including iPads. Five RTOs in four states, working across health and beauty, business services, community services, finance, conservation and land management, and dental assisting sectors, will collaborate to develop high definition video content and pilot interactive, synchronous video communication and recordings for e-learning and e-assessment, online RPL purposes. With sound e-learning experience, each RTO is ready to move to the next level, exploring opportunities that the NBN provides, particularly with much faster speed and more access for learners. For tutors, trainers and assessors, and learners, options for TelePresence will be explored to overcome issues of distance, location, travel and time costs for e-learning and e-assessment facilitation. The project will make use of the tools and technologies in the documentation of the project outcomes. An ‘RTO NBN enabled capability framework’ will be developed and validated alongside this project to articulate the initial benchmark and progress of the participating RTOs. As an output of the project,
this framework will be able to be utilised by other RTOs to assist in determining readiness - capability strengths, gaps and workforce development needs.

Beef industry Stocktake Reef e-learning package
This training is a key element of the Australian Government’s $200M Reef Plan commitments, particularly in catchments in North and Central Queensland where the intent is to help producers minimise nutrient and chemical inflows into the Great Barrier Reef. This workshop helps producers understand their land condition, gain Stocktake pasture monitoring skills and use a software tool to assist management decisions around grazing lands. The Stocktake4Reef delivery team does not have the capacity to deliver the face-to-face workshop to the 600 targeted producers in reef catchment areas.

The program is currently delivered via distance learning – the proposed NBN enhanced blended learning approach will improve both training delivery and outcomes for learners. Current delivery is to 95 learners in 24 separate locations across NSW – providing limited opportunity for learner collaboration and economies of scale. We intend to pilot this program with 10 learners in the Armidale area – a Stage 1 NBN Rollout Area. The program will also be delivered for access using current broadband capacity for access by the remaining users/areas.

HWNS Smart Medicine
This training will overcome the challenges we face to provide on a regular basis to those with a lack of computer skills or in remote areas. This will provide an environment they are able to deal with more comfortably and give a greater opportunity to interact via distance. As an Enterprise RTO, the training is delivered to meet the requirements of CHCCS305A – Assist clients with medication. The competency of staff is reviewed on an annual basis or in response to any incident. HWNS has services in areas that align to NBN pilot sites including Armidale, Townsville (both Aitkenvale and Mundingburra) and Wollongong.

Training through NBN: Australia - The World!
The Training through NBN: Australia – The World! project demonstrates the power of broadband to support student learning. The project will demonstrate the National Broadband Network (NBN) capacity to deliver Diploma of Children’s Services through video streaming and tele-presence solutions to remote learners.The online delivery of the Diploma Course to NBN linked regional sites will enhance interaction between students and teachers, providing access to additional expertise and broader experience, expanding learning opportunities in regional and remote areas.

Remote Skills Acquisition for Fire Investigators
This project will assist regional fire investigators to develop critical skills in fire investigation. The project will use Point of View (PoV) and fixed video camera technology for developing and accessing high level competencies in fire investigation. The Australasian Fire Investigation and Analysis Project Group (AFIAG) recently endorsed a national training program in Fire Investigation and this technology is seen as a critical part of the delivery strategy. Students will gain theoretical knowledge on-line and their practical skills will be captured using PoV and fixed camera technology. This information will be transferred to assessors via the NBN. The speed at which the scene assessment can be transmitted will allow for timely feedback on performance and provide opportunities for trainees to further investigate fire scenes should critical evidence be missed. After initial trails the project will expand nationally to all states and territories.

Construction Safety Training Simulator
The project will develop a simulation for the experiential learning of safety risks in a construction environment. The simulation involves the generation of a number of risks at commencement, so that risks are different each ‘playthrough’. As the learner navigates the 3D world (using keyboard and mouse), they identify risks. Following the game, they are required to undertake the risk assessment and report them to their manager.

This online Assessment for Learning package uses an innovative scenario-based assessment task where high speed broadband will prove its value in the effective delivery of the product and the return of learner responses.
We aim to deliver high resolution audio visual stimuli in real-time to replicate workplace situations involving cultural conflict the learner is likely to face as an employee within the tourism industry.
The learner is required to demonstrate they have the knowledge and skills to recognise issues with a cultural basis and act to resolve those issues. When the learner has viewed each segment of the video, they have 30 seconds to prepare and deliver their responses to the virtual client. Direct recording of the responses to a server within the strict time limit replicate the high pressure situation where an employee needs to think quickly and respond immediately to a client.
